On the 25 August 2017, the Council on Ethics recommended that Atal SA be excluded from the Government Pension Fund Global due to an unacceptable risk that the company contributes to serious human rights violations, including forced labour, through employing a subcontractor which has used North Korean workers at Atal’s construction sites.
Norges Bank made public its decision to exclude the company on January 16, 2018.
